From TACA Storm to Texas Storm Basketball Inc.: Embracing Growth and Excellence

DeSoto, Texas: Texas Storm Basketball, Inc. is a premier homeschool basketball

organization serving boys ages 8-18. After seven years, the organization is stepping into a new direction under the continued leadership of Co-Founder and Senior Director of Operations, Mekeisha Steele and veteran coach and Director of Basketball Operations & Program Strategist, Ani Umana. The organization is leaning into the natural evolution of the brand.

Established in 2016 as TACA Storm Basketball with the help of Mr. James Rooney, the program has experienced immense growth. The TACA brand began simply as a football team, serving several students from around the Metroplex. The brand later expanded to specifically serve homeschooled students who needed a safe, supportive, and competitive space to refine their skills.

“Our organization is one that was founded on producing excellence,” Steele explained. “Not only have we been an award-winning team, but we’ve also consistently produced award-winning players and won championships for the past five years. Now, we are embracing new opportunities that are guiding our organization in a fresh direction.”

The future looks bright for The Texas Storm Basketball organization, thanks to its roster of experienced leaders and dedicated supporters. Among them are the newly appointed head coach, Stephen Spurlock, Sr., and the seasoned co-founder and Senior Vice-President of Operations, Chemille Benton, who have both played crucial roles in the growth and development of players over the past several years.

“I am excited about the transition to Texas Storm, a move that will increase our growth and broaden our reach,” Umana explained. “Our true strength lies in the growth and development of our student-athletes, achieved through faith and strong partnerships with our community and parents. It is the people who have always been, and will always remain, the defining feature that makes our organization so unique.”

Founded on the principles of the Bible and the teachings of Jesus, dedication, love, and a commitment to others will continue to be at the heart of all the Texas Storm does. They are currently expanding their roster and accepting new team members. Boys ages 14-18 are welcome to attend a 2-day skills training camp on July 30 -31, 2024 at Paul Quinn College.
